Players - Badgers L.C.C.

Words from our club captain!!

Few can be sure of the origin of the Badgers L.C.C. As Bilbo Baggins explains at the beginning of his book, The Hobbit - the tale has grown in the telling. Some say that the Badger reflects the nocturnal habits of the players, known to be more alert at night time with a pint in their hands, than in the middle of a cricket pitch on a sunny day with a run total to chase.

Others have suggested that it reflects our keen eyesight and committed hunting in the outfield, but this massive overclaim was soon noted and the people responsible politely asked to leave.

There was even a rumour that it referred to the rather distinguished grey hair of a certain player, of whom I am too polite to name. The origin of the name may never be known, but what's important is that we do play our cricket inspired by legends such as The Hobbit and Wind in the Willows; the underdog can triumph over the aggressive and mercenary......or at least in the sense that we like our home comforts and plenty of frothy beer.

'We look forward to playing you, but more importantly look forward to a beer with you afterwards.'

Matt Gilbert - B.L.C.C. Club Captain.
