2008 Tour - Badgers L.C.C
After the intense winter training the Badgers were relishing the chance to go on tour in 2008. Following on from a cracking start to the season with two wins out of two the Badgers travelled to Norwich to play the first ever test match in the clubs history. Arriving in Norwich the exclusive Squares bar was the friday night watering hole. Costing only £1 to get in this was the perfect place for a bunch of married over 30's to get down with the kids without being noticed!!
The evening got warmed up with rounds of Jager-Mule's after the bar staff refused to serve anymore John Smiths due to its well publicised side effects!! Unsurprisingly a few Jager-Mules later the group some how split up without realising. The following morning was spent in bed mainly because we were trying to avoid the B&B's owner who was keen to get to know some of us more than others.
Saturday's game was a washout and it was agreed now to play a 35 over game with BLT on Sunday. As a result the Badgers visited the local sports centre for an extravaganza of sport. 5-a-side footy was first on the menu. After an epic game which ended 24-23, the game will be remebered for the courage shown by Ross from friends. Despite having a career threatening knee injury he showed great maturity by following his doctors explicit instructions, that is not to risk further injury by going in goal!!!
After a variety of other games the saturday evening started with a Ruby where Badger called his brother to see if he could move the game forward - well done whoever reminded him!! Once again the evening merged into a single memory, a game of Tuesday's, Amir khan and that last pub!!
Once again the morning was one of sore heads, thought this time it was followed by a game of cricket. Despite a rogue X and arrow on the map the Badgers eventually found the pitch with the help of the locals, though they only knoew of one pitch!! The game got underway with the Badgers opting to field. A solid start left the oppo 12 -3 after 6 overs. Unfortunately this early pace from the Badgers didn't continue and BLT were eventually bowled out for 163. The Badgers innings as usual started with a 54no from Joff and a quick 35no from Lambers. Not breaking from tradition the Badgers next 4 wickets went for 6 runs, DBS you must try and avoid playing proper cricket strokes!!! Badger, Zan & Pete came in and steadied the ship and extended our unbeaten run to 3 with victory in the 25th Over!!
Big thanks must go to BLT for their hospitality, Mrs Badger (senior) for laying on such a fantastic tea and our capitano, The Badger, for not only organising the weeknd but for also being the bank!!! All in all a top tour - roll on 2009!!
