2007 Annual Game - Badvers v HRLCC
Cricket defies teh elements!!
The day started with unrelenting rain, but the forecast kept some hope for a game. Fortunately the rain eased and the game began. BLCC won the toss and put HRLCC into bat. The opening over saw a costly drop, but after that the opening pair put on a solid display to get to their 25s. Hippy even hit a 6! Tommy K was struggling with the slow outfield and not enjoying to actual have to run. Mark and TT followed. TT was the first victim of the day to Perks. Cotty got in the action and Mark was soon following me back to the pavilion for a brilliantly taken caught and bowled. Borders and Mango took up the mantle until Perks came back into the action took two more wickets. BooBoo, next in, showing all the pressure of someone on a hat trick of ducks in this fixture. 14 runs later BooBoo ensured Forbsey and Cotty had the worst batting averages. Badger, Joff, Harris DBS & Sharma also took wickets. The innings ended with HRLCC on 163 & not a duck between them.
BLCC opened with Badger and DBS but it felt like Joff and Harris. Badger, bowled but DBS tried to hit out for the team, but he only managed to send his own stumps flying off Ben’s ferocious bowling. A wicket Maiden from Ben, a sensational effort in modern cricket! Joff knocked off his 25 in 8 balls bringing Lambers to the crease. Harris and Lambers were looking comfortable until despite a dropped a catch of Monty Panesar proportions to keep Harris there. Lambers then took control by hitting the ball for two, the ball was hurled in and it went through 3 fielders until it then trickled through Robbie’s legs. Lambers believed for the third run and Hippy calmly chucked the ball in to claim the run out. Norm then stepped forward but had the misfortune of facing Big Tom steaming in and decided that there was beer to be drunk in the clubhouse. Lambers got to his 25 and in walked Jon who was mistakably run out of a beer bottle. The home team recalled him when Forbsey pointed out some obscure law. Jon then became one of Hippy’s four victims. Cotty was next, he chose to play and miss realising that his team needed to score more quickly and he was not the man for the job. Finally Kate fell to Hippy who made the school boy error of apologizing-never again! Arun had done his bit with some lofty blows (all the same shot) and the return of Joff and Lambers requiring15 runs with 1 wicket off the last over. HRLCC had levelled the series in an absolute epic game.
Special thanks to the umpires, my mum for feeding so many and everyone for cleaning up afterwards and setting it up beforehand
