2007 Annual Game - Badvers v HRLCC

Whats do they say about lightning??!!

After another long wait the day of the annual game finally arrived. Both teams arrived with much expectation but secretly craving that win to take them 2 - 1 up in the series and become the first team to win the trophy twice - what an honour!!! As usual the Badgers were late which annoyed HRLCC , but this was smoothed over by them going into bat. The innings started off ferociously with a 6 from Joff off the first ball, causing spectators to dive for cover. Joff continued with this pace and finished his innings on 62no. This wasn't the case though for many of the other badgers, Dubali, Sharma, JD all joined the duck club though some were members from previous years, but solid innings from Lambers, Harris, DBS & Perks kept the score ticking over and the Badgers eneded their session on 178.

Though not a definate winning score it was a score that would require some concentrated bating by HRLCC and thus would give them the honour of being the first team to win the trophy twice. The openers were solid, putting on 40 runs for the first wicket. Badger, Norm, Joff & Chris then came into the bowling attack for the Badgers and ate into the middle order removing seven batsmen between them. The Badgers were gaining momentum and started to look like being the team that would not only be the first team to win the trophy twice, but also be the first team to ever retain the trophy. This momentum though was halted by a calm and collected Speight brothers partnership. Not only steadying the HRLCC ship they moved the pendulum back in favour of HRLCC and made them look like they would be the first team to win the trophy twice. All was going to plan and HRLCC required less than a run a ball when the Dibble came back into the attack. The the batsmen (and the keeper) now felt the full force of the Dubali Express with him removing two key wickets in 3 balls. TT was the only recognised batsmen left and had a mamoth task on his hands. TT's wicket fell in the following over to a diving catch from Joff and celebrations amongst the Badgers erupted as they realised that they had not only become the first team ever to win the trophy twice, but also the first team ever to retain the trophy in its history, something that wouldn't be seen for at least two years!!

Both teams spent the evening enjoying many drinks and gradually closing in on the moment a bottle of Vodka would appear followed by the words "Lets play Ches's game" which was always a good time

for the fat lady to starting warming up her voice!! Congrats to Joff who was man of the match and to Chris who was Badge du Jour. Special thanks must also go to the two local umpires who did a splendid job, TT for sorting the pitch out and last but not least the pub for putting up with our usual drunkednes. All in all a top weekend lads - roll on next year!!!
